Vita Mealies Empty
PostSubject: Vita Mealies   Vita Mealies EmptyFri Jul 20, 2012 1:38 pm

So, it looks like their mealworms come in a min order of 300. I have only 2 gliders....will the mealworms go bad/die before I feed them all? This site looks really great for my babies and from what other ppl tell me, I shouldn't buy mealies from PetCo/Smart because in comparison, they "suck". What are your thoughts on this?

You can store the mealworms in the frig for about two months before they start to go bad. The best way to do this is:
1. Upon receiving your order, remove dead mealies (they will be black/mushy, or stiff/hard.
Put them in a container filled with wheat bedding, or rolled oats (not instant). Add enough slices of fresh potato or carrots. Let set for 24 hours for them to feed.

2. Remove potato/carrots. Mix bedding to make sure that it is 'dry'. Check again for dead mealies. Place lid (with several air holes poked through on top) over container. Put in coolest part of frig (furthest away from coldest area).

3. Repeat above steps once a week.

I buy mealworm feed from exotic nutrition, and add that to the bedding for extra nutrition.

Always make sure that the 'bedding' is completely dry, otherwise there is a risk of mold, which can be fatal to your gliders.

My four girls do seem to appreciate Camilla's mealworms more than store bought. Camilla sends some bedding with hers, I usually just toss the worms in the fridge, pick out dead ones, and they last a few months.

I am absolutely getting this next time. I did the math: we normally get the 35 count mealies at PetSmart. We'll say it costs about $4 every time I go. It's a little less than that but between gas & sales tax.

Camillie's cost $17 w/free shipping for a quantity of 300.

If I were to shop at PetSmart, $17 could only get me 4 containers at 35 qty each. Some of which are very dead, and poor in quality. That's 140 tops.

DON'T NEED TO TELL ME TWICE!

Oh, and wait...as a member of GG, there's a special going for $17 for 500 mealies.

My days at PetSmart are OVER.
