Hedgehog Empty
PostSubject: Hedgehog   Hedgehog EmptyWed Aug 29, 2012 2:42 pm

My son & dil just got a little hedgehog, I've only seen a photo of him. He came with an aquarium home, but I'm not sure size, haven't seen it, dil says maybe 20gal long. They want to get a bigger home for it, but don't have a lot of money to spend. I was researching for cage options on them and found that there are a couple of inexpensive cages that can be made up. I was wondering which of those would be best: C&C or plastic container, or if both are good options. I was also wondering if anyone knew if the Apogee Reptarium would be a good cage for them, using a soft-tray liner. They come in large sizes and relatively affordable still, I think.

If anyone who has one of these little guys would let me know what they think about the best & cheapest housing options I'd appreciate it. Also would really like the opinion on the AR, because it's very ventilated, just not sure about safety or practicality of them, I don't know anything about hedgehogs or their chewing habits.

I built a C&C Cage for our guinea pigs and I love it. The great part about it is that you can customize the size and layout for the space you have. It is easy to clean and relatively inexpensive to make. If they want to go that route you can get the grids at Sears or Bed, Bath and Beyond for around $20 and Home Depot sells large sheets of the corrugated sign board for around $10. If you have any sign shops near you, you may be able to get the sign board from them cheaper or in different sizes.
