Just Rescued an Easter Duckling Empty
PostSubject: Just Rescued an Easter Duckling   Just Rescued an Easter Duckling EmptyTue Jun 19, 2012 12:19 am

i posted an ad on craigslist looking for any adult ducks and i was contacted by a person who wanted to give me their pekin duck. they said they got her around easter so she is probably one of the poor duckling's who was bought as a cute easter gift. we asked what they fed her and they fed dog food and things like lettuce and whatever else she finds. i dont even know how a duck would eat dog food. we feed our ducks scratch grain and they also forage for their own food all day. the poor thing was shaking when we took her and got a little car sick. all the ducks were in the front yard waiting for us when we came home lol.
she is still just a baby, she has some fluff still on her and she doesnt quack yet. im not even sure what the gender is yet lol.
she is very sweet. she lets me pet her and sometimes comes when i call her. it may not show it in the pictures but she is a pretty big duck. she LOVES the pond i dont know if they at least had a kiddy pool for her to play in. her name is Pekin(the 2nd) it may be weird to re use a name but i still catch myself almost yelling her name when i go out to feed them. i have re used names before like silly-willy name of my first duck, sphinx i named one of my girls after her uncle who didnt survive his first few months of life in the pond. but some names i retire like cleo and crest(cleo being the first sphinx's sister).

PostSubject: Re: Just Rescued an Easter Duckling   Just Rescued an Easter Duckling EmptyTue Jun 19, 2012 1:02 pm

just checked on her this morning. she is doing great! i told ollie(my orphan black swedish duck you can see him in the first video next to her) to take care of her yesterday and he is. found her hanging out with ollie on the other side of the lake. he still doesnt want her right next to her but at least he is letting her hang around with him. he was brought up in a similar way. i raised him on his own till he could be put in the lake but the others didnt accept him till he started quacking. im guessing it has to do with them still being a duckling and the adult ducks dont want them around.
