Today i found pekin passed away on her nest. not sure what happen. i have had her for many years and this was her first year with a real mate. willow lost his mate last year and this year pekin took her place. but before that she took care of herself not letting any duck push her around. she will be buried right next to my very first duck silly-willy (the 1st).

will just edit this post to add crest
Saturday i found my 4 year old crested blue Swedish duck named Crest had passed away. she was part of a group of older ducks i had gotten because my only male duck had passed away and i wanted to have a male to protect the females. she was also pekin's friend. after her mate passed away she hung out with pekin and bandit(R.I.P). they were a group for a year or two none of them having a mate so they took care of themselves. fighting off the males that were bothering them and such so they were my tough girls.
Crest never did get together with any of my ducks she always preferred the wild mallards. she would always have the biggest male mallard as a mate and he would stay with her till he had to leave for winter. she also didnt wonder to far away from our side of the lake. i would always yell into the little bit of woods surrounding the lake for her and she would come running to eat. ill miss seeing her everyday just hanging out near our yard.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]for some good news though i also found out that i am not as low on females as i thought. i thought i only had one left now but it turns out that i have 3 left. the other day i followed silly and willow across the street and up the side walk. i wasnt expecting them to find her but she finally popped out of someones bushes. she is laying on a nest hopefully whatever is getting my females will not go across the street. not sure how long she has been on them but im very hopeful that she will hatch these eggs. the boys were acting odd though. they stayed by the person's yard and then later were on the other side of the street always looking at the lake like they were on guard. so i think they know there is something wrong and the danger is coming from the lake.
then the next day ollie/milo's mate shows up as well i had thought she was with silly but she went off with milo and i knew it wasnt silly's mate. both of these times i was so happy to see them alive and well. she is also sitting on a nest. please keep them in your thoughts and hope they will be safe.
whatever is doing this the past 2 times (other times had similar things happen but the body was gone)
only kills them and does not eat them(or plucks some feathers and doesnt eat much)
targets females that are on nest
doesnt disturb the eggs in the nest at all
